As part of my journey, I’m posting basically everything that interests me.
And in the areas I feel strong or feel confident that I have value to share, I’ll be creating personal “Pillar Posts”.
What exactly is a pillar post?
Essentially, it’s a long-form blog post that combines several ideas and previous posts around one main topic into one cohesive and foundational piece of content.
I think of it as a “beacon” for myself and it that serves as a go-to resource I can go back to and relearn or revise and for readers who are interested in a particular topic.
What makes a pillar post different from a regular blog post?
For one, it’s longer and more in-depth, often covering a broad topic or providing a comprehensive guide.
It’s also evergreen, meaning it’s not time-sensitive and can be relevant to readers for a long time. Additionally, it’s structured and organized in a way that’s easy for readers to digest and follow. (Well, that would be the plan at least)
So, why is a pillar post important?
There are several benefits, including establishing your authority and expertise on a topic, attracting organic traffic and potential backlinks, increasing social shares and engagement, and saving time and effort in content creation.
But personal, I want to use it as proof. Proof to myself that I know the topic well and proof that I actually helps a few people.
